Wolf vs Jackal Tutorial by ArtisticJackal Wolf vs Jackal Tutorial by ArtisticJackal
I got an ask on tumblr a while ago for tips on how to draw jackals, and as I myself have a way easier time learning through imagery rather than text I decided to put together a super quick tutorial on some key points to drawing them! I used wolves as a comparison as the two are very different yet similar, and everyone knows what a wolf looks like, so is was a good starting point. I really need to go to bed now tho, I should have been asleep an hour ago ;-;

Please notice that this is mainly for artists, I'm pretty rusty at canines and canine anatomy. I took some artistic liberty with the images, exaggerating what I find to be important to pay attention to. This is barely more than a 1 hour study with the aim to help break down these complex animals to something you can easier understand.

You may need to specify exactly what kind of jackal you're talking about here. There are three species, neither of which are particularly closely related to each other.

Just looking at this, I'd say it was a black-backed, but I'd hate it if people saw this and thought this was the correct way to draw golden jackals (which have rounder faces, shorter tails and shorter ears). Other than that, this is a timely and much needed tutorial.

have you by any chance done a tutorial on snouts and such? because i always have trouble with snouts in different angles. for example; if i were to draw a front view of a canine i'd always end up having the nout look weird or too short, and if it were slightly angled to the left, the jowels would look sloppy.

I do have a tutorial on specifically noses, and the shape structures of them, but nothing on snouts... I barely understand them myself so I don't really feel like I'm in a position to teach about them, sorry ^^'

I might do a tutorial on big vs small canines, but it wouldn't go very in-depth on any canine in particular

And thanks! ;u;

I might do a tutorial on big vs small canines, however it wouldn't go in-depth on any specific animal, that'd be too much work ;-;
